Ivan, 17 and his doctor father are trapped in a makeshift hospital bunker as war rages on around them. Ivan juggles the responsibilities of comforting children, managing supplies, and aiding the wounded. Their bunker is close to the frontline, so, helping his father, Ivan coordinates an evacuation truck for them all to escape, only for an airstrike to destroy it. Panic ensues. After a report of two Russian soldiers closing in on the bunker, Ivan makes a daring decision– he alone will attempt to shoot the approaching soldiers to save his fellow inhabitants. 

When all hope seems lost in the hills, Ivan injures himself to divert the Russians. He is captured but narrowly escapes
execution when the enemy receives new orders. Ivan hurries back to warn his father the Russians are clearing the area, only to witness an airstrike that destroys the bunker, leaving him as the only survivor.
